Gregory Thayer
President and CEO

Gregory Thayer has been President and CEO of The Vaccine Company since December 2003. Just prior to that, Mr. Thayer was the lead venture consultant for the formation of a company based on the work of Dr. Roger Kornberg of Stanford University, and simultaneously was an early employee of MerciaPharma, Inc., a vaccine development and formulations company. Prior to that, Mr. Thayer was Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel of DoubleTwist, Inc., a bioinformatics company. Mr. Thayer had previously been Intellectual Property and Licensing Counsel for Somatix Therapy Corp., an early gene therapy company. Prior to that, Mr. Thayer was an intellectual property attorney with Flehr, Hobach, Albritton and Test. Mr. Thayer also worked for two years at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris, France, where he ran programs on the environmental use and monitoring of genetically modified organisms, in the 24 OECD member countries. Mr. Thayer received his law degree from UC/Hastings College of the Law. He received a M.A. in Physiology from Columbia University, where he conducted his graduate work in molecular neuroscience with Drs. Eric Kandel and Richard Axel, and in the laboratory of Dr. Walter Gilbert at Harvard University.

Craig S. Rosenfeld, MD

Chief Medical Officer and Vice President

Dr. Rosenfeld is one of the co-founders of The Vaccine Company (in 2003), and is responsible for the company’s clinical programs. He is a Board Certified Hematologist, and during almost 20 years of practice, he has conducted and led clinical research protocols in leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome. He has authored or co-authored almost 100 publications in book chapters and peer reviewed journals. Dr. Rosenfeld has also presented original research and expert reviews at International symposia, such as the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Prior to co-founding The Vaccine Company, Dr. Rosenfeld was Chief Scientific Officer at SuperGen, Inc., where he oversaw pivotal trials for Dacogen, which led to NDA submission and FDA approval of Dacogen. Prior to SuperGen, Dr. Rosenfeld started and directed the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Medical City Dallas Hospital. In his early career, he completed Fellowships in Hematology and Oncology, and then joined the Faculty of the University of Pittsburgh, where he became Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at the Western Pennsylvania Cancer Institute. Dr Rosenfeld serves on the Boards of several charitable institutions, and is a Section Editor for the prestigious journal Leukemia.


Rebecca Rudd

Senior Director, Clinical Operations

Ms. Rudd joined The Vaccine Company in October of 2006, and is Senior Director of Clinical Operations. She is responsible for the quality and standardization of the clinical department, conduct of studies, including adherence to GCP and ICH Guidelines. Ms. Rudd is also responsible for the outsourcing and overseeing multiple vendors for clinical trials. She brings to The Vaccine Company more than 20 years experience in clinical operations with a record of accomplishment in executing phase 1 through phase 3 in oncology, pulmonary, dermatology and endocrinology diseases. She has served in various capacities with increasing responsibilities including positions at Pfizer, Inc., (formally Rinat Neuroscience), InterMune, Inc., Matrix Pharmaceuticals, Genentech, Inc., and Triton Bioscience.


Peter Giannousis, Ph.D.

Senior Director, CMC Development

Peter Giannousis joined The Vaccine Company in January of 2007, and is Senior Director of CMC Development. Dr. Giannousis is responsible for the development and outsourcing of manufacturing processes and analytical methods to supply drug substance, drug product, and drug kits for clinical trials, validation, registration, and eventual commercialization. Peter received a doctorate in bioorganic chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley, working with Prof. Paul A. Bartlett. He has over 18 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry including process research and development, Quality Assurance, CMC project management, analytical development, and most recently Chemical Sciences with Scios Inc. Peter has previously held positions of increasing responsibility at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Sugen Inc., and Scios Inc.
